BrightSign Getting Started

#1 Post by jstenner »

We have 4 BrightSign video control units available to UF Art + Technology students: (2) HD1010 and (2) HD210.
These units require you to use the BrightAuthor editing program (or custom scripting without the authoring tool if you're so inclined) to configure the units, or you can script them on your Mac using a text editor. The BrightSign software is Windows only and can be freely downloaded from:

To facilitate work with this tool, we have installed Windows and BrightAuthor on one of the Macs in FAC306.
At this time we don't have an SDHC card reader, so you will need to copy your project to a portable drive and either get a card reader/writer or transfer your files to a computer with one of these built-in (recent Mac laptops can mount/read/write SDHC cards).
You will also need to purchase your own SDHC, compact flash card. These can be found at BestBuy or RadioShack.
BrightSign recommends a minimum Class 4 SDHC flash card for HD video playback:

Other than that, here is everything you need to know about working with the BrightSign video controllers:

BrightSign Synchronized Video

#2 Post by jstenner »

For synchronized video playback of multichannel video you'll need to do some basic scripting. I've never used BrightAuthor for anything I've done with the BrightSign in all of these years. The Murphy's Well-Being piece was completely scripted with Unity3D producing graphics for the touch surface sending UDP packets to a BrightSign unit acting as Master and relaying commands to the Slave unit. I'm glad to provide the scripts, mostly authored by grad Lu Cao, if you think they might be helpful.

Probably the best starting point for this type of work is the set of scripts provided by Zach Poff, here:
